MISSIONS AND COMMITMENTS
OF THE APA, THE LFT, AND THE PARENTS

The APA’s Mission:

The Parents' Association exists to help articulate and structure the expectations of families and the school, as outlined in its statutes.

In this capacity, the APA is a key partner to the administration, teaching staff, and the school life team, serving as a valuable two-way link for both mediation and the exchange of information.

APA – Material resources:

The APA has access to material resources provided by the LFT:

Mailboxes;

Notice boards;

Access to the contact details of parents whose children attend the school and who have consented to such communication;

It is authorized to publicize its activities to other parents via documents distributed to students and/or families.

The APA – Statutes:

The parents' association must operate according to rules defined in its statutes (in compliance with local law).

The APA – Commitments:

In accordance with ministerial guidelines, a genuine partnership must be established between the APA and the school administration—a partnership based on trust and shared responsibility. To meet these requirements, a commitment has been established involving the three key stakeholders: the parents, the LFT, and the APA.

  1. Parental Commitment:
  • To be active and engaged partners in following their children’s schooling;
  • To take an interest in the school as a place of learning and community life;
  • To entrust the APA with requests and questions to be relayed to the administration;
  • To call upon the APA for support in their interactions with the LFT, particularly when cultural or linguistic barriers might arise.

       2. APA Commitment:

  • To listen to parents and gather information to pass on to the administration if necessary;
  • To provide support, expertise, and initiatives for the benefit of the school, parents, and students;
  • To work collaboratively while respecting everyone’s roles and areas of responsibility;
  • To welcome and integrate newcomers and foster civic engagement;
  • Regarding parent representatives: To provide information and training, and act as a liaison between the administration and parents.

        3. School Commitment:

  • To assist the APA in:
    • Carrying out its mission;
    • Mobilizing parents to support the school through both words and actions;
    • Establishing monthly meetings with the APA board; inviting APA members as observers to meetings of the primary school council and the secondary school council;
    • Creating a calendar in June outlining the meetings and activities for the upcoming school year;
    • Sharing the names of parents elected to the school board to facilitate communication with the APA before and after board meetings.
  • Opening up the school by involving parents—through their representatives—at an early stage in discussions regarding educational, pedagogical, facilities-related, and budgetary matters (e.g., the school project, staff orientation day, presentation of curricula and assessment methods, pedagogical reports, new investments, etc.);
  • Encouraging and giving meaning to parental involvement by inviting parents to various events throughout the year.

Registration or re-registration constitutes full and complete acceptance of these commitments by all three parties.
